KLAS releases new EHR rankings

MedcomSoft Record is the top EHR program for practices of one to five doctors in the latest software rankings by KLAS Enterprises, a research firm that focuses on customer satisfaction.

The number-one EHR for small practices—sold by a company called MedcomSoft—also handles practice-management chores such as scheduling and billing. Other top-ranked EHR programs in a 2007 year-end report from KLAS are PrimeSuite from Greenway Medical Technologies for practices of 6 to 25 physicians, TouchWorks EHR from Allscripts for practices of 26 to 100 physicians, and EpicCare Ambulatory EMR from Epic Systems for practices of more than 100 physicians.

All these programs are certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, but this stamp of approval pertains only to listed features and functions considered essential to digitized charts. But what about the performance record of the programs and the vendors behind them? In its ongoing surveys, KLAS asks thousands of software users to rate vendors on issues such as training, implementation, support, and software corrections and updates. Questions such as “Would you recommend this product to a peer or close friend?” and “Would you buy from this vendor again?” cut to the chase.

The latest KLAS report, titled “Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards,” costs $500 if you’re a healthcare provider; everyone else pays $2,500. However, doctors
can look up individual vendor ratings at the KLAS website at no cost by completing an online survey on software, medical equipment, or IT professional services that they use.
