Social networks invade doctor-patient relationship

As more seed capital flow into Internet social networking sites, more and more entrepreneurs are coming up with ways to get in between you and your patients. At the very least, you should know about the growing number of sites helping your patients talk about their illnesses and treatments — and about their doctors.

The Nashua Telegraph has an article profiling some of these sites and the patients that go to them.

“The reason people are going to social networks has evolved. It started with just wanting to connect with people, and now it’s ‘I want to see if the drug I’ve been taking has been effective in a group of patients similar to me.’ It’s become more sophisticated,” said Dr. Indu Subaiya, organizer of a San Francisco conference held recently on social networking in health care.
